Dear Asheville Rapids Family,
I know that a number of folks have asked about the plan for travel hockey for
the upcoming season. After some much needed time off, we are starting to have
discussions about this season and how to best
approach putting our teams together. Right now we are focusing on getting the
fall recreation league
started and then we will put together a schedule for the travel program.
I strongly encourage all inline travel players to sign up for the fall recreation
league. Remember, you must play at least one session
per hockey year (fall or spring) to be eligible for Rapids travel.
One issue that we are faced with this upcoming year, to a much greater extent
than in past years, is that a number of our inline travel kids are going to
play travel ice hockey in Greenville. Historically we have
been able to put together rosters where almost all of our players are “inline
only”. However, I am not sure we
will have enough travel caliber players available for that to be the case this
season. We will have a much better idea in 3 or 4 weeks about how this issue
will shake out. We may be in a position this year where
we will have to make some changes to the inline travel program in Asheville to
better accommodate ice players until that season ends in early March. Other
inline programs face the same challenge each year
and they seem to be able to work things out.
Because we want to focus on getting the fall recreation league running smooth
and see how the ice hockey situation evolves, Rapids inline travel hockey will
likely start a little later this season.
From my discussions with many parents and coaches, I do not anticipate this being
received too negatively due to the fact our travel inline season can run into
mid June. Hopefully starting formal travel workouts
later will make playing recreation league a little easier. I would anticipate
open tryouts and formal practices starting somewhere between mid-September and
October 1st, but no exact date has been set.
We will get that information out as soon as possible.
Regards,
Todd Evans

2007 - 2008 Hockey Donation Opportunities (printable version)

On behalf of the Asheville Hockey League (AHL) we would like to thank
you for your interest in supporting the league's travel team program.
The Asheville Rapids currently consist of four teams, 16 and under, 14 and under, 12 and
under and 10 and under.
A unique opportunity is possible for companies/individuals that choose to participate with our
youth hockey program as a corporate/private donator.
The purpose of obtaining such donations is to allow our youth program the
very best opportunity to promote continuing hockey development through
competitive tournament play and supplying the necessary equipment.
Due to the equipment necessary to protect our children and extensive
travel to find indoor facilities, hockey can be an expensive sport.
By using basic athletic fundamentals, skill and character training,
our youth will be able to continue their athletic growth through these efforts.
While we will accept any level of donation, individuals who elect to donate $300 or more will
receive a plaque with a photo of our league members to proudly display
wherever they choose.
If you would like to make a donation to the travel program, please print the
donation letter and mail to the address on the letter head.
Thank you for your support of Inline Hockey in Asheville.
