Top of Page Why is protective equipment required?

Protective equipment is there to protect players against injury and should be used wherever possible. Protective equipment includes personal equipment such as mouthguards and headgear, as well as equipment such as padding around goal posts.

More than 26 million Americans participate in the sport of inline hockey. Whether skating fast or standing still, you can get an injury from fractures or dislocations to more serious injuries to the head if you do not follow the rules of the sport.

The first thing you will need to do is review the required equipment list for either YOUTH or ADULT. Selection of hockey equipment is a key issue for players, parents and coaches. When purchasing and fitting hockey equipment, remember two important factors: 1) make certain the player is adequately protected and 2) be sure the fitting allows freedom of movement so the player can properly perform the necessary skills. By carefully considering these two factors, you or your child will be more comfortable and will better enjoy participation in the game.

Top of Page Will the league supply equipment?

The AHL does keep complete sets of goalie equipment for each division within the league and various pieces of player equipment.

The goalie equipment was purchased by the league to ensure every team would have a goalie for each game. If any youth or adult wishes to try the position of goalie, the league encourages you to try the position with the league equipment. If a player decides the goalie position is one they want to keep playing, they will be expected to purchase their own equipment after a time.

The player equipment kept on hand is "loaner" equipment - meant to provide to those players who sometimes forget a piece of equipment.

If a player needs either the goalie or player equipment, please inform your coach. Only coaches or league officials are permitted to sign out or in league equipment. Be sure to turn in the equipment to your coach immediately after the game.

If you cannot afford to purchase all the required equipment at one time, you may certainly use league equipment until all pieces have been purchased. If there are other circumstances that would prevent you from being able to purchase equipment, please see a league official. Our goal is to ensure all those interested in the game of inline hockey have a chance to play.
